The practice of yogic exercises and philosophies opens up the joints,opens energy channels, relaxes the muscles, promotes general health and expansion of conscious awareness.
The physical practices can be done by anyone:young, old, those in good health, and those in poor health. The exercises should be done in a relaxed state of mind; they are actually more mental than physical. As you will discover, many are not challenging postures, but they should be respected due to the great value they bring.
The practices taught in class are concerned with loosening up the joints of the body. Excellent for those with rheumatism, arthritis, high blood pressure, heart problems or other ailments where vigorous physical exercise is not advised. Particularly useful for eliminating energy blocks in the joints and outer extremities of the physical body, and works on the energetic and mental bodies as well.
Further practices taught in class are concerned with strengthening the digestive system. Excellent for those persons suffering from indigestion, constipation, acidity,excess wind or gas, lack of appetite, diabetes, disorders of the maleor female reproductive systems and varicose veins. Also eliminating energy blocks in the abdominal area.
Another aspect of the practices work on improving the energy flow within the body and breaking down neuro-muscular knots, especially in the pelvic region where energy tends to stagnate. Very useful for those with reduced vitality and a stiff back. Classes are especially useful for those with menstrual problems and toning the pelvic organs and muscles. Practices also eliminate energy blockages in the spine, activate the lungs and heart, and improve endocrine function.
Classes are finished with gentle breathing exercises and short guided deep relaxation or meditation and chanting.
